Broadband breakthrough

Now that broadband has entered the public consciousness, operators are looking to provide a broader stepping-stone strategy to encourage migration. At the same time, the always-on connection is enabling a new breed of application to emerge, such as VOIP and peer-to-peer and video streaming applications, and operators are finding that speed is of the essence. Thus they are being forced to devise a mass market offering, differentiated by usage, price, and services. But the operators' innovations in this area, and the speeds which they provision, will be decided by just how competitive the market is and how healthy in terms of penetration.
