Often the best way to conduct business is by stepping into the shoes of another--especially if those shoes belong to your boss. Looking at the business from that point of view can help you see what your company needs to become stronger in today's market. The view from the top can positively affect the bottom line as well as strengthen your standing in the company. I calculate the cost of every business move I make--whether it's for my company or someone else's--because I know what it feels like to take the risk and fear the fall. As a salesperson, you can do the same thing. Learn to make business decisions as if you were the owner. That means weighing the costs and benefits of everything you do, treating each sale as if your company's future depends on it, using time and other resources wisely, and always asking yourself how else you can advance the company--even in ways outside your job description.
