The experiments were conducted during rainy seasons to evaluate the efficacy of different insecticides by different methods for controlling the major pests viz. Thirps [Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood] and yellow-mites [Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks)] infesting chilli (Capsicum annuum L.). Among sixteen treatments, comprised of six different application techniques, soil application of phorate 10% granules @ 3 g/m~2 in nursery-bed before sowing followed by seedling root-dip (SRD) in monocrotophs (0.05%)solution before transplanting proved highly effective combination against the pests and in reducing the leaf curl disease intensity. However, this treatment was equally effective with another combination treatment of carbofuran 3% granules @ 10 g/m~2 followed by SRD in acephate (0.05%). Among other treatments, seed treatment with carbosulfan 25 std (5%) followed by SRD in carbosulfan 25 EC (0.05%), foliar spray of monocrotophos (0.04%), acephate (0.05%) and methyl-demeton (0.025%) on seedlings (3 weeksold) were next best effective group as compared to remaining treatments.
