US raw steel production edges down

US raw steel output decreased 0.8% last week with a 5.2% production decline in the southern region, American Iron and Steel Institute data published Monday showed. In the week ended January 30, US mills produced 1.66 million st of steel, down from 1.67 million st the week before. The industry?s capability utilization was 70.7% last week, the AISI estimated. The AISI updated the industry?s estimated capability for the first quarter to about 30.5 million st, up from 30.4 million st in the fourth quarter of 2015, but down from 31.4 million st in Q1 2015.
