US raw steel production edges up after big fall

US raw steel production edged up 1.1% week on week, American Iron and Steel Institute data publishedMonday showed, but the industry has not recovered the production cuts seen two weeks ago.For the week ended January 24, US mills produced 1.825 million st of steel, up from 1.806 million st theweek before. The industry’s average capability utilization rose to 75.9% from 75.1% the prior week - butwas still down from 79% the week before that.
