Kino-Quebec: The Quebec Program for Active Living

Aims. - Description of the program for Active Living, Kino-Quebec.Current knowledge. - Kino-Quebec is the program for Active Living of the Governement of Quebec. It was established in the late 1970 and its mission is to "promote a physically active lifestyle in order to contribute to the well-being of the Quebec population". Kino-Quebec is managed by le Secretariat aux loisirs et aux sports du gouvernement du Quebec, in partnership with the Ministere de la Sante et des services sociaux, as well as health and social services agencies through their public health branch. The equipe de coordination nationale, with three advisors, supervises the work of some 35 "conseillers-Kino" in the 18 regions of Quebec throughout the public health administrative unit of the health and social services agencies. The activities of Kino-Qu?bec are based on the ecological model of health promotion, according to which the development of healthy life styles occurs progressively as a person adapts to the changing properties ofhis/her physical and social environment. The activities of Kino-Quebec, thus, simultaneously target the person and his/her environment, i.e. family, school, workplace, community, etc. The 2005-2008 plan of Kino-Quebec targets the schools and the municipal and community milieus. In order to keep up with the research development in physical activity and health, and to be able to effectively disseminate this research, for the benefit of its partners and the population, the Kino-QuebecScientific Committee was established. This committee of physical activity experts from the scientific and professional communities, publishes advices on various subjects related to health and physical activity.
