Brazil’s met coal demand mayrise to over 22 million mt in 2017 aided by thestartup of a new northeast region integratedmill, despite a currently weaker footing withtwo blast furnaces in the country idled,according to a Jellinbah Group executive.Brazil may demand 13.7 million mt of hardcoking coal and 3.8 million mt of PCI in 2015,with growth next year in HCC to 16.3 millionmt and 4 million mt in PCI as the CompanhiaSiderurgica do Pecem mill starts up, said Jorge Caldeira, technical marketing managerat Jellinbah. The Queensland-based minersupplies HCC and PCI to Brazil.
