US scrap exports hit eight-year low in 2014

US ferrous scrap exports totaled 15.32 million mt in 2014, the lowest annual level since 2006, as inter national mills sought alternatives to higherpriced US material. It was the third-consecutive year of declines since 2011’s record export total of 24.5 million mt. Scrap exports fell to 21.34 million mt in 2012 and 18.46 million mt in 2013 before dropping another 17% to the 2014 total, according to US Department of Commerce and US International Trade Commission Data.
