World production of iron ore pellets increased by 3.5% to 416 million mt in 2011, a new record high, according to a new report from the Unctad Iron Ore Trust Fund. This came on top of a 32% surge in pellet production in 2010 and reflects a continued increase in demand from many countries, the report says, although steel market weakness has led to reduced growth in pellets demand relative to the total for iron ore.
