Rio Tinto progresses yandicoogina iron ore project

Perth-based engineering firm Calibre Group has won a 150 million Australia dollars (157 million dollars) contract from Rio Tinto to help upgrade the company's Yandicoogina iron ore mine in the Pilbara. Rio is spending 1.7 billion dollars on what it calls the Yandicoogina Sustaining Project, aimed at lifting nameplate capacity to 56 million mt/year from 53 million mt/year now and extending the mine life through to 2021.
