China developing 66 new iron ore projects

Chinese steelmakers and miners have some 66 iron ore projects either under construction or due to start that could produce a total of 500 million mt/year of run-of-mine product, according to a report co-authored by the Metallurgical Mines Association of China (MMAC) and consultancy mysteel.com. About 80% of this capacity is believed to be captive mines belonging to steel companies. The rest is owned by small and privately owned mining companies, the report disclosed.
