SunCoke met coal mine sale proving difficult

US producer SunCoke Energy said Thursday it no longer expected to divest its coal mining business due to the state of the industry, adding domestic met coke production was little changed in the second quarter. A sale was no longer probable due to “prolonged market challenges and sharply lower prices impacting the metallurgical coal industry,” SunCoke said in a statement, adding it still wanted to dispose of its coal mining business. SunCoke is significantly rationalizing mining operations to reduce ongoing costs, it said.
