Australia's BlueScope Steel said a decision on whether to build a new 1 million mt/year direct reduced iron (DRI) plant at its North Star mini-mill in Ohio is still a “long way off,” despite a report to the contrary from a Chicago-based steel consultant.A note published by consultancy Steel Market Intelligence Monday claimed BlueScope was set to announce the new plant “in the next few weeks” and that American iron ore miner Cliffs Natural Resources would supply the facility with iron ore pellets from its United Taconite operation in Minnesota.
