China’s MIIT steps up tracking of steelworks' energy usage

China’s Ministry of Industry & Information Technology is further intensifying the monitoring of energyconsumption and emissions among the country’s steelmakers, a MIIT official confirmed Wednesday.Beginning in 2009 the ministry’s computerized system – the so-called Energy Management Center – hasbeen collecting energy usage and emissions data at some 91 Chinese steel mills each hosting a crude steelcapacity of 3 million mt/year or more.
