An Improved Procedure for Preparation of Carbapenem Antibiotic: Meropenem

An efficient synthesis of a 1beta-methyl carbapenem antibiotic, meropenem, is described. The present process does not involve cryogenic temperatures, chromatographic purification, or reverse osmosis and is amenable to large scale synthesis.
