Neurotology: Past, present, and future-the 2012 William F. House Lecture

I am honored to present the 2012 William House Lecture to the American Neurotology Society and to follow the long line of distinguished individuals who have stood in this place. It is a particular pleasure to pay tribute to Dr. William House, a mentor to me many years ago during my fellowship.The history of the American Neurotology Society (ANS) begins in 1963. During the fall meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology (AAOO) in New York City, there was an informal meeting of 7 otologists: Norton Canfield, Fred Harbert, Willard Parker, Alam Glorig, Richard Marcus, Joseph Sataloff, and Nicholas Torok (1).
