Degradation Mechanism of Amido Group Containing Polymers in the Presence of Nitrogen Dioxide

摘要

Interaction of nitrogen dioxide with amido group containing polymers is studied. On the base of kinetic regularities of the reactions in polyamides, a new mechanism of the process is proposed. The reaction is suggested to occur with participation of dimeric form of nitrogen dioxide being a strong oxidiser. As the result of redox conversions, the nitric acid and the radical pairs "amidyl radical - nitrogen oxide" are formed. The conseqeunt reactions of these radical pairs are responsible for the formation of the main product - N-nitrosocompound and also for the macromolecule destruction and acylalkylnitroxyl macroradical accumulation. A similar mechanism of the process is postulated to interpret the composition of free-radical and molecular products of nitrogen dioxide interaction with polyvinylpirrolidone and aromatic polyamidoimide.
