摘要

Sue Kedgley, Green MP and Spokesperson on Food, digs behind the supermarket shelves. Go into any supermarket in the country, peruse the shelves and freezers, and inevitably you will find them chock full of food from all over the world. We recently bought 21 items of food from two local supermarkets and found that they had travelled an extraordinary 214,611 kilometres to get to our supermarket shelves. We found garlic from China, Watties frozen vegetables from China, fresh peas from Zimbabwe and catfood from Thailand - all transported hundreds of thousands of miles - "food miles" - to get to our supermarkets.
