DEGRADATION OF ANTHRACENE IN CONTAMINATED SOIL BY LACCASE MEDIATOR SYSTEM

The study examines the elimination of anthracene in contaminated soil in laccase-mediator systems, such as laccase systems, laccase-natural mediator systems, and laccase-2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonate) (ABTS) mediator systems; the study also evaluates the results of each experiment. Based on these results, the optimum values of the parameters in the laccase-ABTS system are as follows: 4.5 pH, 50 degrees C temperature, 1 U/ml laccase concentration, and 0.3 mmol/l ABTS concentration, and the highest elimination efficiency was 38%. The mediator was oxidised prior to the introduction of anthracene by laccase due to its low redox potential property; an intermediate that increased the electron transfer rate was formed in the process. Additionally, the enzymatic reaction rate was further accelerated in the process.
