Troop equipment: French modern - France begins training with soldier-level network

The French Army is preparing to outfit its first infantry regiment with a suite of futuristic-sounding soldier equipment called FELIN, for Fantassin a Equipements et Liaisons Integres or Integrated Communications Equipment for the Infantryman. Deliveries of FELIN, which consists of an ultrasensitive voice pickup system, a new electro-optical weapon sight and palm-sized display computer, are underway by Sagem Defense Securite, headquartered in Paris. FELIN's operational debut is expected to follow in late 2011 or early 2012, after the infantry unit completes training with the new system.
