摘要

Since its 2004 rollout, the Army's Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) platform has dramatically enhanced communications in the field. By drawing satellite connections into the communications chain, the system allows war fighters to remain in constant contact, even without an available line of sight. Today, the next iteration of that system is on target to significantly upgrade those capabilities. With its $1 billion annual budget, WIN-T Increment 2 promises to simplify system use and streamline operation and maintenance tasks. Testing of the new capabilities under realistic conditions is on target so far, said COL Ed Swanson, Project Manager, Warfighter Information Tactical (PM WIN-T). He spoke during a recent C4ISR & Networks webcast. With lab personnel and engineers conducting testing over some 200 kilometers of ground, "it's putting the network under a lot of stress."
