Army Aims At 2020 For WIN-T On-The-Move, Anti-Jam Capability

The Army hopes to equip the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical with an on-the-move, anti-jam capability as part of the system's fourth increment, according to a program official. Lynn Epperson, the deputy project manager for WIN-T satellite communications, said WIN-T Increment 4 will focus on Protected Satellite Communication On-the-Move (PCOTM), an anti-jam tool that can be used by soldiers at all levels. "We're looking at a 2020 target date for having this capability," Epperson told attendees at a Feb. 6 National Defense Industrial Association breakfast in Arlington, VA. "We want to augment the rest of the WIN-T architecture with that anti-jam capability and we're talking specifically down at the lower echelons where it can make such a difference." To make PCOTM a reality the Army is "heavily engaged" with the joint community on satellite requirements and constellations because decisions outside the service's sphere of influence can have "a significant impact" on cost and complexity of Army terminals, Epperson said.
