Spindle cell carcinoma of the larynx with actinomyces chondritis of the larynx and trachea.

Spindle cell carcinomas are rare neoplasms of the upper aerodigestive system consisting of both epithelial and mesenchymal components that have a controversial origin. We describe the case of a 69-year-old male with a polypoid spindle cell carcinoma of the larynx.The patient was a 69-year-old man with a medical history significant for coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, diabetes, and hypothyroidism. The patient presented with an 8-month history of hoarseness without odynophasia, a 30-pound weight loss, trouble speaking, and a persistent cough. He had a 20-year history of smoking, but had stopped 40 years earlier.
