INCIDENCE OF ANAPLASMOSIS, BABESIOSIS AND THEILERIOSIS IN DAIRY CATTLE IN PESHAWAR

Haemoparasites are major-constraints on livestock production in tropical and sub-tropical countries. This study was conducted during 2001 as a part of our acaricidal spray, fecal samples collection as well as vaccination program of animals against scheduled diseases in Watpaga, Nasirpur, Jahgra, Chamkani/Surezai villages in Peshawar district. Analysis of 285 blood smears revealed 68 samples (23.85%) positive for blood parasites. Out of 68 positive cases, 12 samples (4.21%) were harboring single infection of A. marginale and 11 samples (3.85 %) were having single infection of A- centrals. Babesia bijemina was recorded in 5 cases (1.75%), B. bovis in 8 samples (2.80 %), Theileria annulata was confirmed in 4 cases (1.40%) and T. parva in 2 samples (0.70%). Remaining 26 blood samples showed mixed infection of A. marginale with A. centrale 12 cases (4.21%), B. bovis with A. centrale 10 samples (3.50%), T. annulata with A. marginale 2 cases (0.70%) and T. parva with A. marginale was recorded in 2 samples (0.70%), respectively.
