Effect of various levels of nitrogen, phosphorus and potash on the yield of garlic.

Field experiments were conducted in Baffa (Mansehra), Pakistan, from 2004 to 2005, to monitor the effect of various levels of N, P2O5 and K2O fertilizer treatments on different growth parameters (plant height, number of leaves per plant, bulb weight and yield) in garlic cv. Baffa Selection-I bulbs. Results revealed that all the fertilizer treatments increased plant height, leaves per plant, bulb weight and bulb yield significantly over the control. Maximum plant height and number of leaves per bulb were recoded in 120-75-75 kg NPK/ha represented as TT, whereas bulb weight and bulb yield were the highest in the treatment receiving 100 kg N, 75 kg P2O5 and 75 kg K2O/ha. The economics of fertilizers were also worked out based on the current market prices and it was found that the use of fertilizers was profitable. The cost benefit ratio ranged from 1:3.3 to 1:6.3..
