Effect of N, P and K fertilizers on potato yield in mid hill of Hazara division.

Experiments were conducted during spring 2000 at Abbottabad and Tanda (Mansehra District, Pakistan) to determine the optimum dose of N, P, K fertilizers for potato. Nine treatments, comprising 3 levels of N (80, 120 and 160 kg/ha), P (0, 60 and 120 kg/ha) and K (140, 180 and 220 kg/ha) were compared with farmer's practice (120:50:0 kg NPK/ha) at Tanda. At Abbottabad, 2 additional treatments, i.e. 120:120:0 and 120:120:360 kg NPK/ha, in the absence of farmer's practice, were included. At both locations, negligible differences were found among the treatments regarding average yield because of the optimal nutritional status of test sites. However, there was a great difference in the total yield between the 2 locations. At Tanda, the yield was very high ranging from 42 to 46 t/ha, while at Abbottabad it ranged between 23 and 27 t/ha. The higher yield levels at Tanda could be attributed to the ideal silt loam soil for potato production..
