SAMPE '07 Wrap Up

Baltimore, MD was the new site for this year's largest spring symposium and exhibition as a first time ever east coast venue. Based upon attendee comments the result of the site change was encouraging and very complimentary. SAMPE's exhibits grew significantly with the east coast venue and a large number of new exhibitors were present on the show floor. The Baltimore/Washington Chapter did an excellent job of defining and organizing an excellent technical program that was packed with something for everybody working the M&P technology areas. SAMPE '07 featured not one, but three Keynote speakers across the three primary days and a luncheon speaker SAMPE's awards luncheon. Douglas Comstock, NASA's Director of Innovative Partnerships Program, led off the event with "NASA's New Strategic Directions and the Importance of Industrial Collaboration". His presentation discussed numerous on-going technology programs of interest to SAMPE members and attendees. NASA was also back strong this year at SAMPE '07 with a full afternoon of NASA Technology Briefings as well as a session on Cryogenic Applications. Dr. Starnes Walker, Homeland Security's Director of Research, presented a very interesting overview of how science, engineering and technology play a role in America's homeland security. His presentation on "The Path Forward for Science and Technology at the Department of Homeland Security" discussed the many facets of technology that are involved in providing such security.
