SAMPE lost a longtime friend and active member on February 20, 2006, when William Huston "Skip" Face passed away from congestive heart failure. He was 68, Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Skip became a Southern California resident when he was 10, He played championship football at San Marino High School and then played for Stanford University while receiving a B.A. degreein Economics. Skip's 100 points in the 1959 season is still second in Stanford's list of all-time single-season point scores, with his record not being surpassed until 1991. His 11 touchdowns in 1959 also places him 8~(th) in the Stanford one-year touchdown total. He played in both the Hula (Senior) Bowl and the East-West.Shrine game, and in 1978 he was inducted into the Stanford Athletics Hail of Fame, Drafted after graduation by the newly formed Dallas Cowboys, Skip suffered a knee injury that ended his football career. Football's loss was definitely the advanced materials industry's gain. In deciding upon a new direction, Skip took a cue from his father, a respected manufacturer's representative, and became a salesman for Narmco Materials in Costa Mesa.
