OSHA: VPP participants' status will change after catastrophes

Washington - Any Voluntary Protection Programs participant that experiences a fatality or other catastrophe will have its VPP status change to "inactive" pending an investigation, according to a May 29 memorandum from OSHA administrator David Michaels. The status change will occur within 10 days of initiating the inspection and will be reflected in print and electronic materials from the agency, the memo to regional administrators states. Additionally, participants will be notified and requested not to display the VPP flag, plaque or certificates during the inactive status period.
