摘要

Although February’s major solar flare and the associated electromagnetic radiation or space weather only caused minor disruption to international airline services experts have warned against complacency as the sun builds up to a peak of activity in the next two years. One area which has been identified as potentially vulnerable to interference are global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). The European air navigation safety body Eurocontrol have commissioned research into the disruptive impact future space weather could have on these systems which are used by aircraft for navigation, including precision runway approach guidance.
