Preparing for inspection

In a recent informal poll of National Safety Council member companies, 47.8 percent of respondents said their workplace had been visited by an OSHA compliance officer within the past two years. That means many of you reading this have recently interacted with an OSHA inspector. In addition, when Safety+Health went to press, Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis had just announced that OSHA would be hiring more than 100 inspectors. A quick online search using the keywords "OSHA inspection" results in many articles. Some use the word "prepare." Others use "manage." One even says "survive." Safety professionals do not take OSHA inspections lightly. So how does the OSHA compliance officer who shows up to search your workplace for hazards become prepared to do so?
