Study links vets' miscarriage risk to occupational exposures

LONDON - Pregnant veterinarians exposed to anesthetic gases, radiation or pesticides may double their risk of a miscarriage, according to a recent Australian study. British journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine first published the report in its April 3 online version. As part of the study, researchers analyzed 940 pregnancies during a 40-year period. The researchers found the chance of miscarriage increased twofold in female veterinarians exposed to anesthetic gases and pesticides.
