摘要

Loss of carcasses because of preventable actions continues to cost the industry. "THE MAJORITY of pigs that are condemned look healthy to the producer and the packer before slaughter," says Kathy Zurbrigg, surveillance analyst with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), in an analysis of provincial condemnation data two years ago. In Zurbrigg's study, farm size was not a factor in predicting where the majority of condemned hogs originated. Farm health status, however, was a large indicator. Condemnation reports over the past 10 years, from the federal plants, which account for most of Ontario's slaughter, as reported by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), show overall condemnation numbers to be relatively consistent.
