THIS CASE BEGAN WITH a call from the owner of a 1500 sow farrow to finish multi-site system. The owner requested post mortems on several found dead suckling piglets. The pre-weaning mortality had recently increased approximately two per cent.The postmortem revealed that the pigs were in poor body condition but the bellies appeared to be to be "full"prior to the post mortems.Suprisingly,the internal findings on all three piglets wre indentical.The bellies had only appeared to be full because of dilation and enlargement of the intestines due to a back up of intestinal content.
