PINK MOULD SHOWING UP in this year's fields of corn may result in mycotoxins that can cause harm to the animals.Pink mould is usually a fusarium fungus also often called Gibberella ear rot in corn or head scab in wheat and barley. Not always do these fungi produce mycotoxins which are secondary metabolic products of mould. Fusarium moulds can produce toxins in thefield if conditions are right but also may produce toxins in storage bins after harvest.The more types of toxins present in the feedstuffs the more devastating the feeding results may be due to the combined synergistic effects of mycotoxicoses caused by these cocktails.
