Seroprevalence of Helicobacter pylori in dyspeptic patients in Iran.

Prevalence of Helicobacter pylori ( H. pylori) in dyspeptic patients in southeast Iran is reported. In a cross-sectional study, 1873 serum samples from dyspeptic patients were collected during 2013. Samples were analyzed for anti H. pylori IgG antibodies using an H. pylori IgG Elisa. Chi-square testing was used to determine significance across sex and age groups. Anti H. pylori IgG antibodies were detected in sera of 1454 (77.6%) patients. Prevalence was higher in patients of 21-40 years. Males had a prevalence of 75.3% compared to 78.7% in females and was not significant (P>0.05). Findings show that the prevalence of H. pylori infection in dyspeptic Iranians is high and associated with older age.
