Bilateral perineal hernia with urinary bladder retroflexion in a terrier dog.

An 8-year-old intact male terrier dog in stupor with a history of bilateral progressive perineal swelling, seizure, and anuria was presented for treatment. The animal received bisacodyl suppositories 3 days later for obstipation. The owner then claimed that hematochezia, stranguria and perineal swelling began after the treatment. In plain radiography, the urinary bladder was not visible in the abdominal cavity. Complete blood count showed leukocytosis and the biochemical profile revealed increased BUN and creatinine. Conservative treatment was started by peritoneal dialysis, anticonvulsant, antiemetic and antibiotic therapy to stabilize the patient for herniorraphy. The dog died due to severe uremic syndrome. This report describes a bilateral perineal hernia with urinary bladder retroflexion in a terrier dog.
