Abstract: Osleoarthritis. osleonecrosis. and rapidly progres-sive osleoarlhrilis arc Jiip arlhropathies that result in marked pain and disability. Although these diseases share features of arlhrilis-like symptoms and are all treated with total hip arthro-plasly. they are separate diseases with distinct epidcmiologic. radiographic. and hislopaihologic lindings. In this article, the authors present clinical lips and techniques that will aid the surgeon in diagnosing and treating these dilTerent entities.
