Many athletes, particularly those whose sports necessitate weight bearing on their hands, suffer from chronic wrist pain. These individuals are at a higher risk for overuse injuries of the upper extremities including carpal bone fatigue fractures. Five previous cases of scaphoid stress fractures have been reported in the literature. Of the reported cases, four occurred in gymnasts. All of the athletes presented with chronic wrist pain and absence of associated traumaticinjury. There have been no reported cases in divers.
