摘要

The surgical management of musculoskeletal tumours is a challenging problem, particularly around the pelvis with its complex anatomy and when dealing with tumours where reconstruction is crucial to function. Surgical precision is essential to ensure accurate resection margins, whilst optimizing subsequent reconstruction, particularly in terms of limb length and alignment. The use of computer navigation in musculoskeletal oncology allows three dimensional integration of local anatomy and tumour extent to identify bony transection points accurately, whilst preserving key structures. Computer assisted surgery is gaining popularity as a method of improving surgical precision and intra-operative confidence. Furthermore, we would suggest it is a valuable aid in reconstruction of limb length, rotation and overall alignment following tumour resection. We shall discuss the indications for navigation assistance in musculoskeletal oncology, along with the limitations and developments within this advancing field.
