Maternal vitamin D status in pregnancy and offspring brain development: Authors' reply to C. Annweiler and O. Beauchet

摘要

We deeply appreciate the important points raised by Annweiler and Beauchet [1] regarding our narrative review on maternal vitamin D status in pregnancy and offspring bone development [2]. Indeed, maternal vitamin D status during pregnancy and its potential impact on offspring non-skeletal parameters comprises a major health issue. Current data [2] do not indicate universal vitamin D supplementation for pregnant women regarding offspring's skeletal health. Our interpretation of the literature [2] is that specific groups of pregnant women should have vitamin D supplementation for the prevention of offspring's bone deformities. The same approach seems reasonable for non-skeletal adverse consequences, including neurocognitive development.
