Influence of salt stress on sodium:potassium ratio in rice cultivars

Salt tolerant rice cultivars Pusa 2-21 and Saket-4 showed lower levels of sodium and higher levels of potassium in rice seedlings than the salt sensitive cultivars, Kamini and Sugandha, when subjected to salt stress (EC 12 and 16) treatment. The sodium:potassium ratio was lower in tolerant cultivars and higher in sensitive cultivars. Sodium:potassium ratios of the growth medium also influenced the seedling growth of rice.
