The efficacy of organic manures in conjunction with varying levels of chemical fertilizers in improving the productivity of rice was studied. The highest NPK level of 105 :52.5 :52.5 kg ha~(-1) and S level of 25 kg ha~(-1) favoured the rice yield. The available NPK status of soil was found higher in plots supplied with higher rate of organic manure either as farmyard manure at 10 t ha~(-1) or vermicompost at 5 t ha~(-1) . Soil sulphur status was increased with the addition of 25 kg ha~(-1) Salong with organic manure. In Kerala, about 70 percent of the rice soils are deficient in sulphur and its nutrition is fast gaining importance (Nair, 1995) .Since higher level of chemical fertilizers supplied alone deteriorate soil health, a study on integrated nutrient management was carried out to find out the efficacy of organic manures in conjunction with NPKS fertilizers in improving the rice yield and maintaining the nutrient status of the soil.
