A field experiment was conducted during the wet season of 2000 and 2001 and dry season of 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 to study the effect of biozyme on yield components, grain yield, nutrient uptake and economics of rice in a rice-rice cropping sequence.It revealed that the biozyme had positive effects on the yield components and grain yield of rice. When three fourth of the recommended dose of chemical fertilizer was applied with various levels of biozyme, it resulted in higher grain yield as comparedto the treatment receiving recommended dose of chemical fertilizer. Sole application of biozyme without any addition of chemical fertilizer was not effective. Uptake of nutrients significantly increased with the increased levels of biozyme application. Application of biozyme resulted in a better balance of N, P and K in soil. When 25% ofN through chemical fertilizer was withdrawn, biozyme gave rise to increased positive balance ofN, P and K as compared to fall dose of chemical fertilizer along with biozyme.
