A set of diallel crosses involving seven rice genotypes was evaluated for 10 yield attributing traits to study the nature of gene action. The analysis revealed the predominance of non additive gene action for all the characters. Proportion of dominant and recessive alleles were distributed unequally among the parents. The highest heritability values in narrow sense were observed for panicle length (64.19) while for all other characters, it was very low. For varietal improvement, the exploitation ofthe variety, Ketan, might be useful, as it possessed highest frequency of dominant genes with positive effects for ear bearing tillers plant~(-1) and spikelets panicle~(-1).
