PORK, many of you may be surprised to learn is the third most popular meat eaten in Australia - yes even more popular than lamb! But does the average pork lover know anything about how one of their favourite meats actually gets to their plates? How many have ever bothered to find out how the pigs are bred and raised? Would they continue to buy the meat knowing that most sows spend their working lives in a space so confined they cannot turn around? Would they be quite so happy throwing snags on the Barbie knowing the piglets are routinely mutilated without an anaesthetic?
