In the United States, violence and abuse (V/A) is a serious threat to public health. Success in preventing injuries is predicated on early diagno-sis, referral, and inter ventional strategies for victims of V/A. Early identification of women who may have injuries attributable to V/A is the first step in successful management strategies to deal with the immediate and long-term effects of this chronic, debilitating, and sometimes fatal condition
