Up Close and Personal: Creating the AOS Display

AT 7 am on the morning of judging, I realized that a sign on our exhibit (No. 56) indicated that 1956 was the last year the AOS had staged a display at the Philadelphia Flower Show. I also recollected my first visit to The Flower Show, as it was referred to then (aka the Philly Flower Show), now known as the Philadelphia International Flower Show. Every March the crowds showed up to view this spectacle as "Philadelphia" as the cheese steak and scrapple. A neighbor had taken me to my first flower show in the 1960s, and later I purchased my first orchid at this show in 1976, an unlabeled rooted cymbidium backbulb, after having been seduced by the exhibits of Waldor Orchids and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Orchid Society (SEPOS).
