Orchid production in the New Millennium: a symposium cosponsored by the American orchid Society shines new light on orchid research

For the first time in 97-year history of the American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS) an orchid symposium titled Orchid Production in the New Millennium was held at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida on July 25 as part of the ASHS Annual International conference This symposium focused on the scientific research and production of potted blooming orchids. The American Orchid Society (AOS) was a cosponsor of this symposium, providing a grant, while I handled the planning, invitation of speakers and promotion of the symposium. In early July, the expanded abstracts from the six speakers were published in HortTechnology, one of the three journals published by ASHS, reprints were made available to the symposium participants.
