The sale, announced on May 3, will bring certainty and stability to the future of Scales, Andy believes. Part of Scales holdings includes Hastings-based Mr Apple, New Zealand's biggest fruitgrower and packer. Mr Apple has 800 hectares of orchards, andthis season exported 2 million cartons of its own fruit, and a further 1.3-million cartons for growers that supply its packhouses in Hawke's Bay and Nelson. Scales operating businesses also include Meateor Foods that exports processed meat used in the world's leading pet food brands, New Zealand's largest cold store network, a bulk liquids storage business and a logistics business.
